CSIP-AUS is an implementation profile of IEEE 2030.5 developed for Australian grid management use-cases. It defines implementation details, requirements and extensions for remote management of CER through IEEE 2030.5 in Australia.
The decision to utilise CSIP-AUS in a particular context is made by a utility or the state government for a jurisdiction. DNSPs are currently the main parties choosing to utilise CSIP-AUS, however it is also being used by Synergy as the state-owned Electricity Retailer in Western Australia.
CSIP-AUS was originally developed for the purpose of communicating DOEs to support efficient electricity grid management and power system security outcomes. As adoption of CSIP-AUS increases, parties are exploring how it can be used to address other use cases.
CSIP-AUS is under active development by the DERIAPITWG, a broad-based collaboration of Australian industry stakeholders chaired by the Australian National University under the ISC. To allow for it to be referenced in relevant legislation, CSIP-AUS v1.2 has been published as a Standards Australia Technical Specification.
CSIP-AUS v1.3 is currently under development with a view to publication in early 2026. It will provide a range of additional functions including a Storage Extension and a Pricing Extension, and other editorial changes to improve clarity and consistency.
